Day 3: A Day of The Largest

We spent Tuesday, December 7th meeting with the largest law firm, the largest ISP and the largest developer in China. An important message from our hosts is their economic prowess. They are quite proud of their accomplishments in 30 years.

We also met with the largest embassy in Beijing, the U.S. embassy. An impressive group of people at our embassy for sure. We met with the political and trade officer as well as our civilian deputy chief in the ACS (American Citizen Services) section.

The morning began with a visit to the Dacheng Law Office in Beijing. With nearly 2,000 lawyers in China, Dacheng just opened its second office in the United States - New York City. Its founder, Mr. Peng Xuefeng presented for about 30 minutes sharing the highlights of the development of his firm and introducing some of his team of managing partners. Mainly Dacheng deals in commercial transactions, transportation issues and direct foreign direct investment among others.

Next we were off to Tencent where we received a warm welcome from the youngest group of business people yet. Tencent is a chinese based internet business that provides services similar to google, facebook and yahoo through its portal QQ.com. Our hosts were quite appreciative of our visit and treated us like visiting sports figures or Hollywood types. Pretty neat for sure. Although we didn't have time to discuss IP issues, it would have been interesting to hear their perspective on competing with U.S. companies.

More to come....leaving Nanchang now for Fujian Province.
