I Am From the Beatles and the Who Too!

I am one of those lucky people to have great in-laws. None of the issues that some find when combining their family with another are present in my life. I am further blessed by the fact that my brothers and sister-in-law are pretty fantastic too.

My third little sister Tess, was just recently recognized in a DC wide poetry contest for a poem she wrote that highlights where she is from. This poem is fantastic and highlights Tess' talent at understanding life through both the lense of a young adult and an old soul. You truly are a gift young Tess. Congrats.

Here is the poem:

I am from going fishing and from jumping rope.
From checkers and ice-skating.

I’m from the Beatles and the Who. I’m from the Bun Bar sitting on their shelves in the candy store.

From Dilly Bars and Red Hots. I’m from the puzzles packed neatly in their boxes to the shopping bags filled to the top.

I’m from the people who wanted to be an actor and a nurse.
I’m from baseball and volleyball.

I’m from the old butterfly collection hidden under the bed and the football cards stacked all dusty with age in a corner. I’m from the groovy years.

I’m from Rick Ely and from Nancy Sinatra.
I’m from Robinson Crusoe and from Seventeenth Summer.
I am a little bit Mom and a little bit Dad.
